REPORTING TO
CEO/Director of Clerking and the proposed Business Development
Director
JOB SUMMARY
To support the strategic development, implementation and
execution of Chambers domestic and international marketing,
communications and events, branding and online presence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will report into and work closely with the Chief Executive/Director of Clerking and
the Marketing Committee to develop and execute the marketing business plan both at an operational and
strategic level and ensure that it is adhered to and monitored along the way. The role is supported by a
Marketing & Events Assistant. You will be responsible for:
Budgeting
 Set an annual budget.
 Monitor expenditure against budget, prepare and report on expenditure to the Marketing Committee.
Reporting
 Report to the Marketing Committee on a monthly basis about the marketing and business development
activities of Chambers.
 Prepare reports for Head of Chambers and Key Staff on an ad-hoc basis for various discrete projects.
Strategy Development
 Develop a strategic marketing and business development plan in conjunction with the Business
Development Director aligned to and in support of the achievement of Chambers’ broader business
strategy.
Client Relationship Management
 Support the CEO and the Practice Managers with domestic and international BD trips and meetings,
prepare information on financials and intel on the people they will be meeting with.
 Capture the outcomes from the meetings and trips and prepare reports to assist with building up a
greater understanding of Chambers’ client relationships.
 Develop a CRM programme for Chambers in collaboration with the CEO/Director of Clerking, Business
Development Director and Key Staff.
Profile Raising Activities
 Responsibility for all areas of the production of Chambers’ quarterly publication, KC Legal Update:
o Determining what articles/barristers will appear in each quarterly issue.
o


Liaising with MoCs to get their commitment and continue to chase until their contributions are
received.
o Proof read all content.
o Involve the Director of Research in the process, weekly meetings or updates.
o Liaise with the external designer to agree a design and print.
o Distribute the publication in electronic and hardcopy format ensuring the publication affords a
wide circulation.
Generate speaking opportunities and opportunities for Members of Chambers to prepare
blogs/articles/webinars:
o Build relationships with external organisations (such as the different divisions of Thomson
Reuters, LexisNexis, JCT News, CDR, SIAC) and with PSLs/fee-earners with responsibility for
organising training at their organisations.
o Ensure Members of Chambers take up and follow through on the opportunities.
Prepare and distribute press releases and news items.
Events
 Organise all of Chambers events including seminars, conferences, parties, corporate hospitality,
dinners, drinks and pupillage related events.
 Organise Members of Chambers for all their individual speaking opportunities.
 Manage CPD for Chambers.
 Prepare:
o Speaking materials – PPT, branded papers, speaker biographies
o Speaking opportunities pro-forma
o Liaise with external bodies/organisations regarding venue sourcing, and other logistics.
Internal Communication
 Bi-weekly meetings with the Senior Practice Managers to ensure they are aware of what is going on
and to support them with their initiatives as required.
 Draft and distribute KC Connect – weekly internal communication to Chambers.
 Promote industry events to Members of Chambers so they have visibility of opportunities they have to
speak at or attend as a delegate.
 Report to the Marketing Committee on a monthly basis about the marketing and business development
activities of Chambers.
Database Management
 MLC – oversee the cleansing of the whole database.
 Maintain library of seminar papers.
 Maintain databases of all Business Development activities undertaken by the CEO/Director of Clerking
and the clerks team.
Development of Chambers’ brand/identity
 Continue the work of the previous role holder on the brand project.
External Recognition
 Assist in the drafting of all directory submissions and legal awards for individuals and Chambers for:
o Chambers and Partners UK, Global and Asia-Pacific
o Legal 500 UK and Asia-Pacific
o Who’s Who Legal
o Chambers Bar Awards
 Field queries in relation to other directories and awards and prepare submissions, as required.
Website
 Ensure all content is up-to-date on the website and optimised for search engines.
 Look at ways to enhance content and drive increased traffic to the websites
Social Media
 Manage and coordinate Chambers’ approach and ensure an appropriate strategy is deployed and
adhered to by individuals.
Advertising
 Design and secure placement of advertisements promoting Chambers and our specialisms in trade and
legal press when required.
Pupillage related promotions
 All promotional activities associated with Pupillage at Keating Chambers.
Pitching Tenders
 Work with Members of Chambers and Clerks to prepare pitch documents for ad-hoc, formal and
speculative opportunities.
