 The function of a verb.
 The difference between an action verb and a linking verb.
Verbs
 The verb of a sentence expresses an action or simply states a
fact (linking verb):
 Jenny cut down the old oak tree.
 Waiters set the table for the buffet.
 Our senator is happy about the new law.
 My brother was in a bad mood.

Action Verbs
 Action verbs show action.
 This action may be physical or mental.
 Physical Action: jump, shout, search, carry, run…
 Mental Action: worry, think, believe, imagine…
Linking Verbs
 Linking verbs link two parts of a sentence.
 They link the subject with a predicate nominative or a
prepositional phrase.
 A linking verb is like an equal’s sign.
 The star’s name is Ruby.
 The watermelon looks ripe.
 She is in the classroom
name = Ruby
watermelon = ripe
she = in the classroom
