Objectives. When we finish this chapter, you will be able to:
1. Describe the wavelengths of visible light and the primary and secondary pigments that
capture energy from light.
2. Understand the main pathways by which energy from the sun or from specific chemical
reactions enters organisms and passes from organism to organism, and/or back into the
environment.
3. Describe the steps of the light-dependent and light-independent reactions, and identify
the raw materials needed to start each phase and the products made by each phase.
4. Contrast C3, C4, and CAM plants.
