County Durham and Darlington Clinical Commissioning Groups’ Talking Therapies
NHS North Durham, Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield and Darlington Clinical Commissioning
Groups (CCGs) are working together to commission an integrated talking therapy service into the
area. All three CCGs want to ensure that service users and the public, health professionals and
others are involved in developing how these services are delivered.
Talking therapies include primary care psychology, improving access to psychological therapies and
primary care counselling and could include other services in the future, such as a rapid response
suicide prevention service. Having all these services working in an integrated way, means they can
all be offered to local residents in the County Durham and Darlington area, through a single access
point.
Your views are important to us, on how this service can be improved. These will be used to shape
the service to meet the needs of the local population. You can have your say by requesting a paper
copy of the survey from Gail Whitehead on 0191 374 4167 or Lynne Carter on 0191 374 4241 or via
email at gail.whitehead2@nhs.net. Alternatively you can complete an online version of the form at

St Andrew’s Church Open Days
St. Andrew’s opens its doors for the community: church again open to visitors over the summer! The
fine 13th century parish church of St. Andrew, South Church, Bishop Auckland may be for many
people an unexplored treasure - a shame when there is such a gem of national importance on our
doorstep!
This summer, St. Andrew’s will be manned by a team of volunteers two days on selected weekends
so that visitors can explore for themselves this beautiful ancient building and the many fascinating
features of the largest parish church in County Durham. Among many other interesting artefacts in
the church, the life-sized 14th century oak effigy of a knight shown in the photograph is said to be that
of Pollard, who by local legend “rid the neighbourhood of a monstrous boar”.
St. Andrew’s will be open on Friday & Saturday 18/19 July, 1/2 August, 29/30 August and 26/27
September from 12.00 noon until 4.00 pm. A new Guidebook to the church with its fascinating history
has been produced and people will be there to help show you round. All are welcome and admission
is free of charge. For further details contact: Brian Varley, BA (Oxon) ARCO, Tel: 01388 606075

Third Sector Trends Study Survey 2014
On Tuesday 24th June 2014, the third Northern Rock Foundation Third Sector Trends Survey was
launched online in North East England. The questionnaire will be available at this web address:
https://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/durham/tstnortheast2014
They are asking all local third sector representative organisations, charitable foundations and local
authorities in the region to support the survey by sending emails to all the organisations and groups
they know about in their area. They want to hear from all kinds of third sector organisations, large or
small; whether they are struggling, flourishing or just carrying on more or less as normal.
In order to get as many responses as possible, they will also ask organisations holding events that
take place in the next three months to promote the survey. They’ll also be using Twitter too to get
people interested in the study.
The survey aims to see how the third sector is faring at a time of significant social, economic and
political change. Previous surveys took place in 2010 and 2012. The research will allow us to assess
change using reliable evidence. Previous reports from the study are free to download at this web
address: http://www.nr-foundation.org.uk/resources/third-sector-trends
This unique long-term study will help us to understand what can be done to help the third sector to
continue to work successfully in future. The questionnaire will also be posted to around 4,000
organisations and groups towards the end of June.
The questionnaire only takes about 10-15 minutes to fill in. All answers given are completely
confidential. Last time we got over 1,700 responses – and we need to get as many again to make
sure the survey evidence is reliable.
