Sacred Faith Days
Confucianism, does not consist of any holy faith days because, it does
not involve a god or any super-being that is praised. Confucianism is not a
religion, but a philosophy that helps one to be guided towards kindness, and
respect. It is believed that the evil is taught through the society and humans
are naturally good.
Religious Texts
Important texts for Confucianism were the Analects. Analects is a series
of 20 books that were written by Confucius followers. After Confucius's death
his teachings were compiled along with many of his famous quotes that were
recorded during his life into these 20 books called the Analects. These books
were believed to be written from 475 BC to 221 BC. It did not have much of an
impact until 100 BC where the Chinese were so influenced by Confucian
teachings
the followed them and studied the analects up until around the 20th Century.
The analects spoke of good morals and government, the analects helped China
become more peaceful. The teachings were so important in 2 millennia in China
they became the official state philosophy. Overall the analects are one of the
greatest group of texts that embodies one of the greatest philosophers
teachings.
Founder or Key Figures
Kung Fu Tzu also known as Confucius was the main founder. He had
many followers. Confucius was disappointed by the lack of morality in China and
he wanted to make a change. He wanted to teach others about good values and
morals. Mencius was a Confucius’s disciple. He himself was philosopher.
Key Beliefs
Confucians believe that all people are good, that you should respect and
follow your elders, ancestors should be worshiped, education is strongly
emphasized, and Yin and Yang represent opposite forces that balance out
everything in life. Confucianism has a “Golden Rule” which is: "What you do not
want done to yourself, do not do unto others".
Symbols
The symbol Ying Yang represents the balance in nature and its opposing
forces. This symbol is used during wedding ceremonies in the Chinese culture. It
represents harmony and righteousness within yourself and others. The water
symbol represents the source of life. The jen symbol represents the total virtues
of social harmonies. It also represents the righteousness within yourself and
others. The Li symbol represents good manners, worship, and politeness.
