the following regions” New England, Middle, Chesapeake, and Southern colonies.
3. The Great Awakening, in part, emerged as a reaction to the Enlightenment and its values. The
tension between Enlightenment values and religion can be seen in contemporary social value
debates in America. Provide a recent example of Enlightenment values clashing with religious
values and explain the issue.
4. Historians such as Bernard Bailyn have emphasized the role of newspapers and pamphlets in
building colonial resistance to Britain. Research the John Peter Zenger trial. You can use this

find. What principle did this trial help establish? Under what grounds was the freedom
established?
5. In what ways did the French and Indian War alter the political, economic, and ideological relations
between Britain and its American colonies?
