Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 (Regular Math) 3. Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10 MATHEMATICS The new math curriculum includes 3 available pathways for students. The three pathways available are: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics, Foundations of Mathematics, and Pre-Calculus. At the grade 10 level, a common Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus course is the starting point for both the Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus pathways. When choosing a pathway, students should consider their interests, both current and future. Students and parents are encouraged to research the admission requirements for post-secondary programs of study as they vary by institution and by year. Post-secondary Math requirements will vary. Please be informed, and keep viable options open. For now, keep your child in the highest level of Math they will be successful at. This time next year, students will need to pick a stream of Math to continue on in. (There is a Math 10 Provincial. Students should be in the appropriate stream. Program changes will only be available in the first term of Grade 10) What about a second Language? You do not need a second language to graduate from high School BUT… Some post-secondary institutions do … UBC Language 11 for all faculties UVIC No language requirement for all faculties, except Humanities SFU Introduction language 11 for all faculties UNBC TR.WEST. R BCIT COLLEGES No language requirement Language Options French Immersion Francais Langue 8 - 12 French 8 - 12 Spanish 8 - 12 Language Challenge Exams For those students with a background in: Mandarin Japanese Korean Spanish Punjabi German may apply to write a challenge exam to earn language 11 and 12 credits. *Some post-secondary institutions (ie.UBC) are no longer accepting Challenge exam scores in GPA, but will accept the course as the language 11 requirement for admission.
