JOB PURPOSE



Define and implement a Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) technical strategy for SITA UK
Define document and Own all SOA components Catalogue, Services and Processes)
Take ownership strategy for:
 Data standardization routines
 Data transformations
 Processing of complex business rules
 Data Extracts.
 System workflow components
 Security and data privacy constraints
 Creation of metadata repository
 Integration with external systems using web services



Define a five year SOA technical road map for SITA UK in collaboration with the Technical Architect
Provide SOA technical leadership and advice to both internal team and clients
Strategic planning and development, including presenting information to the internal and external
customer
Understanding how SITA UK solution components will interact to form the most effective SOA for
meeting the goals of the business
Technical co-ordination of all MIS Projects which impact and / or utilise the SOA (Pre-Sales / adding


value to projects)





Responsibility to ensure that all new software acquisitions are inline with the SOA strategy
Co-ordination and authorisation of technical policies and procedure
Understanding of the MIS Budget and implementation, maintenance and enhancement of the SOA
within budget guidelines..
Working with the MIS Leadership Team to develop SOA proposals that move SITA UK into an
industry leading position with regard to IT.

JOB PURPOSE - Continued
Key Activities








Understand the end-to-end SOA infrastructure especially the interfaces between the Sonic
environment and source / target applications.
Understand client business processes and technical requirements and how the SOA environment
supports them.
Familiarise self with leading edge SOA thinking and market direction, including a view on SOA within
GDF Suez.
Evaluation and authorisation of all new software (technical basis) which impact and / or utilise the
SOA infrastructure to ensure it is inline with the MIS Strategy, the SOA Strategy and is technically
sound
Supervision of MIS employees with BAS and / or SOA skills
Escalation point for all SOA client or internal team technology issues
Production and maintenance of comprehensive and appropriate SOA documentation
Liaises with 3rd party suppliers (SOA or Third party applications)

IT Leadership and Governance
 Manage the software environment to support the SOA Strategy and align with the MIS Strategy
and SITA UK business strategy.
 Define SOA Standards Governance
 Standardise SOA software and process where possible.
 Ensure that SOA technical policies and procedures are maintained and followed
 Technical authorisation of software acquisitions, which impact and / or utilize the SOA
infrastructure to ensure all technological solutions fit into an overall framework

Project Office and Project Management
 Assist MIS director and Project office to ensure SOA related projects are technically appropriate
and appropriate resource is being deployed
 Participate in project scope for SOA developments and review to ensure quality of projects

Managed Software Environment
 Produce and manage the documentation required to support the SOA including an application
and interface (software and hardware) portfolio.
 Produce and manage the message / transaction dictionary for intermediate or interface solutions
such as Sonic.
 Ensure integration of legacy systems with new SOA technology solutions.
 Advise on technical design of SOA solutions, software configuration, product extensions and
interfaces.
 Identify SOA risks and potential problem areas and provide effective resolution

Training and Consultancy
 Ensure that personal technical awareness and training is up to date.
 Advise on and provide training for the MIS Department on SOA skills.
 Provide ongoing analysis of which strategic SOA skills to retain in-house.

Change Management
 Monitor and maintain effective change control for all aspects of MIS



IT Human Resources Management
 Build person capability through leading by example, coaching and mentoring.
 Extend SOA expertise by direct skills transfer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Continued:

Co-ordination and authorisation of SOA technical policies and procedures
Development of detailed SOA specifications including logical and physical diagrams of application
architecture and their interfaces and functional specifications
Maintain top level view of all the activity within the MIS Team
Define quality measures for the introduction of new SOA technologies and monitor quality of
technology deliverables and milestones
5 Year SOA Strategy including life-cycle management and new developments
Person Specification
 Highly motivated with a commitment to excel in the delivery of high-benefit, quality MIS architecture,
tempered with commercial experience to align to appropriate levels or timescales where business
pressures apply.
 The ability to manage complex projects and programmes, coupled with excellent communication
skills to enable interaction at all company levels and build relationships with key stakeholders.
 Proven MIS technical knowledge and project management abilities to transition business
requirements into implemented results.
 Self-managing, with flexibility to adjust working style to fit with differing projects and teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Customer Service

IT Purchasing and Legal Contracts
 Liaise with the Legal Department for new and existing contracts with suppliers of SOA solutions..
 Protect the interests of SITA through understanding of contractual terms and conditions of sale for
each SOA architectural component.
 Understand the commercial obligations within MIS contracts which relate to the SOA environment
to ensure that legal commitments to SOA are observed.

Customer Service Focus
 Build and maintain deep knowledge and excellent working relationships with all key business
areas.


KEY KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Effective project and change management skills.

Experience of strategic planning and visioning of technical architecture

Awareness of MIS infrastructure models and how to implement them e.g. centralized vs
decentrailised MIS, best of breed vs EPR

Wide range of knowledge and experience in evaluating and implementing a wide variety of solutions

Experience of building and motivating teams and individuals.

General Management (finance, legal, operational etc.)

Waste Management business knowledge (desirable).

Knowledge of Business Processes and Business Applications

Technical skill set including: XML/XSLT, XML Schema, SOAP,SQL, J2EE (especially on Java Web
Service)
Strong understanding of the SOA service software development lifecycle Strong knowledge of Web
Services standards

Experience with Sonic MQ/ESB

Knowledge of Business Processes and Business Applications

Knowledge of Database management (SQL Server & Oracle)
Knowledge of Unix and Linux
