Objectives - ‫الهدف‬
This project constituted a preparatory phase towards the composition of an associated research
unit, which will be responsible of achieving the whole project objectives and elaborate the
complete intended framework. In this context, the main research and technical objectives are:
-
-
-
-
Study a new quality of service routing protocol that considers the high mobility of
nodes. The potential model should be resilient to the dynamic change of VANET. At the
same time, it should maintain an acceptable quality of service.
Deploy some of the security needs to the new protocol such that selfish nodes will be
detected and punished. Selfish nodes are considered as passive malicious nodes since
they can disrupt the network by not cooperating with others. Such type of behavior can
cause accidents.
Elaborate an Aspect-Oriented model for BPEL targeting the integration and composition
of web services. This will include extending the BPEL language through the definition
of new Aspect-Oriented constructs and primitives for security purposes. Develop and
integrate the models into a framework.
Develop experiments and prototypes about the applicability of the proposed models in
the intelligent transport system (vehicular systems).
Achievements -‫أالنجازات المحققة‬
123456-
The research work on this project has started on September 2012. The following are the
related achievements:
A Novel Aspect-Oriented BPEL Framework for the Dynamic Enforcement of Web
Services Security.
Vanet-QOLSR: QoS-based Clustering OLSR Protocol for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks.
New XACML-AspectBPEL Approach for Composite Web Services Security.
A Dempster-Shafer based Tit-for-Tat Strategy to Regulate the Cooperation in VANET
using QoS-OLSR Protocol.
XrML-RBLicensing Approach Adopted to the BPEL process of Composite Web
services.
Detecting Attacks in a Mobile Cluster-Based QoS-OLSR Protocol.
Perspectives - ‫آفاق البحث‬
In our project, we started investigating and addressing some problems related to the deployment
and adoption of service oriented platforms and Web services technologies in Intelligent
Transport Systems (ITS) including but not limited to routing and security of ITS
communication infrastructure including the presence of passive and malicious nodes, security
and context aware behaviors of Web services, quality of service and security resulting from
adopting the service oriented platforms and Web services technology into ITS, etc. The project
brought many benefits for the Lebanese organizations as well as the industrial companies and
the most important is the environment. Training of highly qualified Lebanese personnel in the
aforementioned fields is a very important achievement that came from the project. The PI, Co-Is
and research assistants got a very good knowledge about ITS, security, routing and quality of
service related issues. The industrial benefits from the project are the elaboration of a
knowledge technology transfer between the Lebanese and International companies/research
centers working in these fields. The results formed a basis to start the associated project to
enforce the integration of these services. Its main benefit will be mainly to our environment and
people safety where most of the pollution and danger are coming from the vehicles on roads. It
also contributes in the future in solving different traffic problems.

Abstract - ‫موجز عن نتائج البحث‬
The successful execution of the project tasks and the promising results of the research
performed permitted us to publish 5 papers in peer reviewed indexed journals and 1 paper in
peer reviewed international conference. It also allowed us to elaborate solid ideas and tasks for
potential associated project with the collaboration of several local and international colleagues
and universities. The Lebanese American University contributed to the project by hosting all the
investigators, providing funding support for research assistants and providing full funding
support for attending and publishing the conference paper.
