What is iLearn?
iLearn is Swinburne’s Learning Management System that is powered by Blackboard. iLearn has a range of tools, such as
chat, blogs, wikis and discussion boards that provide and online area where students can collaborate and participate in a
range of activities that you create as part of their learning in your unit. It is also a place where resources such as
presentations, lecture notes and readings can be provided.

Notifications Dashboard or the Unit Module Page..

Managing My Units
My Units is a set of modules. Each module provides information or alerts about all of your units. You can choose which
modules you want to see on this page. This page can give you quick access to a range of information – guides, links to your
units, tasks, etc. in one spot.
Note: Some modules must remain on the My Units page but can be rearranged on the page.
Selecting Modules
1.
2.
Click Add Module.
Click the maximise button at the top right of a module to see what it will look like.
3.
4.
Click Add under the module you wish to add.
A green success button will appear.
5.
Repeat for all modules you wish to view on your My Units page.
Arranging Modules
The My Units page is arranged into three columns and all modules can be moved around according to your preference.
1.
2.
3.

The module will turn yellow to show that it is being moved.

Removing Modules
1.
Click on the x button on the top right of any module.
Note: Modules that are required will not have an x button and cannot be removed.
Notifications Dashboard
The dashboard is similar to My Units. It is a place to get all the alerts
for all of your units. The dashboard doesn’t have any ‘required’
modules so you this page can be set up completely to how you want it.
To Add, Remove, or Rearrange modules, follow the same steps as in Managing My Units above.
Recommendation
If you intend to use both of these pages, it is recommended that your Notification Dashboard have any modules that alert
you to activity in your subjects and that the My Units page have links to your current units, tasks, and any information
modules that you find useful. This will save you having to move between the two pages to find alerts for your units.
My Home Tips
Choose your modules carefully – some modules show similar content.
Hide your old units –
Use the Manage wheel to edit which units you will see in your module. This saves you having
to scroll through all your old units to find the ones that are active this term. The units are not deleted, just hidden from view.
Don’t overload your page – choose select modules that work for you. If you want lots of information, use the notifications
dashboard for your unit alerts and the my units page for all other information.
