How St Peter’s Child Care
was started and relevance
of the project
Saint Peter’s Child Care is a non profitable organization. It was initiated by a
small group of congregants from Saint Peter’s by the Lake Lutheran Church
in 2000. The concept is centered on the preservation of life and the belief of a
healthy future for all children especially those orphaned through being
affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Traditionally in South African society orphans were looked after by the
extended family. HIV/AIDS has placed an increased strain on the extended
family in many communities as the number of children requiring care and
support has increased drastically. Families are faced with more external
shocks imposed by the economic challenges, unemployment, which makes
extended families less able to cope with caring for additional children.
Saint Peter’s Child Care is focused on providing a holistic care and support
environment for children orphaned as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Because of our unique model which sets up a home with a foster mother and
siblings, our children do not only have a sense of safety and security but also
a sense of hope, and belonging, and a sense of identity.
Since the establishment of St Peter’s Child Care, progress has been made as
far as the medical implications of the HIV/AIDS pandemic are concerned.
Free antiretroviral (ARVs) have become accessible in state hospitals and
research has continued in order to improve their effectiveness and thus the
quality of life of every person that has to rely on ARV medication.
Nevertheless, the HIV/AIDS pandemic continues to be a challenge and the
South African government has put a variety of measures in place, but still
face challenges to cope with the growing number of orphans and therefore
rely strongly on the work of NGOs/NPOs like St Peter’s Child Care.

Chairman’s Report
2013 to 2014
It gives me great pleasure to report back on the past year.
Firstly I would like to congratulate Ntombi for passing her second year at Wits University. She is
currently studying accounting law and we wish her all the best.
Once again during the past year we faced a number of challenges especially from some of our
older children. However the staff professionally overcame these problems.
Our Patrons from the Government, sport and academic sectors contributed to the project and I
would like to thank Former Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Professor Connie Mokadi
and Andrew Mc Lean for their support over the past year.
Johannesburg Child Welfare and Roodeport Child Welfare has once again contributed substantially
to the project. On behalf of the Foster Mothers, the children and the committee I would like to
extend a special word of thanks to them. They are responsible for training, screening and approving
the Foster Mothers, identifying children and preparing all the paperwork so that the Children can be
legally placed through the courts with the Foster Mothers.
We are still financially challenged. However along with some of our reserves, we were able to
generate sufficient funds to sustain the project. A special thank you to the many people,
organisations and all our sponsors who contributed to the project. This ranges from individuals to
smaller and medium businesses, Corporates, Church organisations and Congregational members.
Without their generous contributions, not only financially but also in other ways, we would not be
able to look after so many children. Thank you to the Hermann Olthaver Trust for donating funds to
start a new family and to the Behn Family for their continued support.
To Anke Mölleken and all our friends in Germany who run “Freundeskreis St. Peter´s Child Care
e.V” a big thank you for all the work that you do in raising funds and awareness for our project.
Without your support we would not have been able to grow and sustain the project as quickly as we
have done.
A special thank you to the teachers and principals of the schools that our children attend. Their cooperation and to the fact that they will go the extra mile when required has contributed significantly
to the happiness of our children.
To our other partners:
St. Peter’s By the Lake Lutheran Congregation, LUCSA, Nwanda Incorporated, West Rand
Lutheran Community Church, Neema Lalela, Thomaskirche Bryanston, Freundeskreis St. Peter´s
Child Care e.V , and those partners who contribute food, goods and consumables, a special word
of thanks.
Last but not least, I would like to thank my fellow committee members who worked tirelessly
throughout the year in order to ensure that the project ran smoothly. To Stephanie Press, Adelaide
Mangena, Shelly Styger, Sigrid Meid, the St Peter’s, the St Peters by the Lake Child Care
Committee and the Thomas Kirche Child Care Committee, a special thank you. I would also like to
thank our Driver, who works extremely hard in transporting the Children and Mothers.
In the coming year we are going to face many challenges that will affect the growth and success of
the project. With God’s guidance I am sure that we will be able to meet these challenges so that the
children orphaned as a result of the HIV-AIDS pandemic can benefit.

St Peter’s by the Lake
Pastor’s Report
2013 to 2014
One of the most difficult things to accept in a project like St. Peter’s Child Care is that it
is not perfect. We have endeavoured to go on a journey to provide and care for children
affected by the HIV/Aids pandemic in a holistic and comprehensive way, trying to make
their lives as good as possible. And that is what we do, but notice that we often fall short
and do not do things as well as we yearn to do them, because of challenges out of our
control. The watchword for 2013 expresses something of this.
Hebrews 13:14
For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to
come.
The people involved in St. Peter’s Child Care put much effort into the work and give so
much of their time to our project. They are to be commended!! And still life throws
curved balls at us and we have to deal with them. When two mothers left during 2013,
and caused immeasurable anguish for the children they had in their care we faced great
challenges in our project. Many people rallied together to support the children and the
new mothers and gave more than one could ever expect them to do. I think of the Social
Worker, the whole team in the Northrand congregation and everyone else who was
involved. It took time for the families to settle down again. Through these trials, we
noticed that this world is not like it should be, but it is also not our permanent home. We
may know and look forward to a home one day where everyone will be cared for and
loved. It is this hope in God and the strength we get from him that help us to continue in
this world and try to bring as much of his love as we can into the homes.
The challenges we faced in this project has brought many of us closer together and has
shown that we need professional social workers in the project and we lay people need to
be guided by these professionals. During 2013, I had the privilege of studying Social
Sciences in Germany for 3 months and I realized the wealth of experience and
knowledge that guide social workers in their thinking and actions. It opened my eyes to a
new field of study and made me more careful when dealing with the people in our project.
My hope for the future is that we continue doing the work in this project to the best of our
ability, being guided by professionals in the field and reaching out to God for strength and
wisdom. The churches need to play their role in praying for the families and giving the
necessary spiritual guidance. I was asked to go and pray in a home of St. Peter’s Child
Care the other day and it was a wonderful and deep experience of what God is doing in
the hearts of the children.
May God bless this project and guide us in every decision we make.

Social Work and Training
Report
2013 to 2014
Another year has gone by and here are some of the important highlights from the
Social Work & Training portfolio:
SCHOOLING
St Peters Child Care as we are all aware caters for children from very difficult and
broken childhood backgrounds. With that come behavioural problems and learning
difficulties. We are grateful for the services we receive from University of
Johannesburg department of Educational Psychology. Our children are assessed
and placed in the right schools. The communication between the schools and the
foster mothers has improved and as a result we have fewer issues with some of
the children’s schooling.
THERAPY
The following institutions have been amazing by offering therapy to our children
who are in need and have benefited from it.
Wits University: Occupational therapy and play therapy
Johannesburg Parent and Child Counseling Centre: Psychotherapy & Counseling
University of Johannesburg: Psycho-Educational Assessments
TARA Children’s Clinic: Psychologiacl assessments and treatment
Charlotte Maxeke Child & Family Unit: Psychological assessments and treatment
We also have Psychologists in private practice offering therapy to our mothers and
children. We thank Samantha Leader for her psychological services offered to one
of our families.
INTAKE OF NEW KIDS
In Ouma’s house (Now Lizzy) we have a new boy (7) that joined the family. He has
settled in very well and is attending school at Melpark Primary. Our new house in
Betrams (Lufunoni) under CMR MES has two siblings placed with Rute Nahombe.
The two siblings, a boy (7) and a girl (13) have also settled very well and are
attending school at IH Harris Primary.
THE FOSTER MOTHERS
We had to say goodbye to Ouma Mohoase who has been with St Peters Child
care since 2010. Ouma got married and she was not able to carry on with being a
foster mother for the project as it was not possible for her to be away from her new
family on a full time basis. However she still part of the project as a relief mother.
We wish her well and we are also grateful for the love and care she offered the
children in her care at the time. Lizzy Nedzivhani has taken over Ouma‘s family
and seems to be doing well with the children.

Con’t
Training of Foster Mothers
The following training workshops have been offered to our Foster mothers:
 Psychological Disorders, treatment and therapy: TARA Children’s clinic Nursing Staff
 First Aid Course (Life Saver): St John Ambulance
 Life Coaching: Jo Hazelhurst Ntsebeza
We are grateful to have Motlalepule Nathane-Taulela a qualified Social worker and
Lecturer at Wits University Social Work Department. Motlalepule has been offering a
series of parenting workshops to the foster mothers on a weekly basis. The workshops
also included debriefing sessions to help the foster mothers’ process their feelings and
challenges with caring for orphans placed in their care. The mothers have benefited a
lot from these workshops and training.
Thank you to everyone that is supporting this project, the STPCC management, the
staff, the foster mothers, congregations committees and the volunteers. Without you
these children would not have found a home and a sense of belonging. God bless you!!

Treasurer’s Report
2013 to 2014
Our St Peter’s Child Care Project has continued serving the needs of our
orphaned children through the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Our funding has decreased this year due to the resignation of Stefanie
Maringer, the Manager last year, who facilitated the funding projects & a new
Manager (Stephanie Press) was appointed in January 2014, who needed to
learn the ropes.
Our project is furthermore promoted in Germany through an organization
called Freundeskreis St Peter's Child Care eV which continues to fund us.
Ensuring that expenses were kept minimal, we were challenged in 2013 to
relocate families to safer areas as well as give up a rented house that was
being sold. Thus an increase in rent, challenged the financial status of St.
Peter's child care.
The Annual Financial Statements have been audited by Nwanda
Incorporated and we would like to thank them once again for their
involvement in this project.
With your continued support, we will be able to fulfill our aim in providing a
safe and happy environment for the children in our care.
I would like to thank all our sponsors both local and international and the
support of people who are involved on a daily basis for their involvement &
time who make this project possible & a success!

Project Manager’sReport
2012 to 2013
I joined St Peter’s Child Care on the 6 January 2014 after being self-employed
for the last fourteen years managing my own marketing and communication
company, Tumbulani Afrika Consultants. I have acquired a diversity of skills,
knowledge and networks. My professional experience and commitment to
good work ethics has put me in good stead for the position of Project Manager
at St Peter’s Child Care.
The project offers me the opportunity to work in a Christian environment that
will ensure that children orphaned, not only are their physiological needs taken
care of but also their spiritual needs “Ephesians 6:4 - And, ye fathers,
provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture of the
Lord.”
The first three months were very daunting, yet exciting as I have never worked
in an NGO setting, neither in such close proximity with orphaned children. I
met the kids before meeting any of their Foster Mother. Initially, some of the
children tried to intimidate while others tried to manipulate, while other just
accepted. In order for me to understand the project and its process, I
interviewed all the Foster Mothers and got insight into both their children and
their lives. It was fascinating find out about each mother and child’s
personality and how they all fit into the bigger circle of STPCC. With the
information acquired from the mothers, my next step was to get a business
plan and proposal before tackling the website, which all three has be
accomplished.
I then started my database of potential funders and sponsors and proposed a
golf day which would not only bring in money but also raise awareness. I have
a diverse spectrum of daily work and very lucky that every day is a new day. I
am also blessed to work with a committed and dedicated team that care and
adore our children.
This report is based on the 2013/14 financial year.

Thomaskirche Child Care Report
2013 to 2014
OUR FAMILIES
After the unexpected departure of our 2 foster mothers beginning of 2013, we were
fortunate in that StPCC had found us 2 replacements, Angelinah and Sibongile
respectively, for our 2 families. Needless to say that the children were rather dis-orientated
and unsettled through this experience, with resultant problems in their behaviour and
scholastic achievements.
This problem has been, and is still being, addressed inter alia, through counselling
facilitated by our Social Services Manager, Adelaide.
We are endeavouring to offer our children not only assistance with school homework, but
also various activities of creative and educational nature; e.g. they all (except the youngest
one) participated in the “Incredible Kids Week’ at the Westrand Church, both in mid 2013
and 2014, with rather great enthusiasm. Church Service (Sunday School) is being
attended regularly at St.Peters, with one monthly visit to Thomaskirche.
ACCOMMODATION
Last September, the long awaited move of the elder family took place. StPCC
Management finally found a spacious house in Blairgowrie, within walking distance of
Delta Park School. This has alleviated transport problems for this family. The children have
settled well in their new surroundings.
OUR TEAM
Notwithstanding some changes in the composition of our team, we are still blessed with a
group of dedicated helpers. Not least of those is our new volunteer from ELM in Germany
who has, so to say, taken satisfactory ownership of the one family.
SUPPORT.
We receive ongoing financial support from a number of well-meaning sponsors, both local
in Germany. A special mention is made of the ELM in Germany for delegating competent
volunteers on an annual basis, to support our project.
We extend our thanks to all our friends and sponsors for their support, our team for their
continued dedication, as well as StPCC Management for their continued encouragement
and guidance.
May God bless you all!

St Peter's by the Lake
Committee Report
2013 to2014
After Ouma moved into the Cottage at Glory´s house STPCC tried to buy the house
where our two families lived in order to save on rent and make everything easier. The
living situation in the Cresta area changed over the month, the house was on the
market and it was still impossible for St. Peters to cope with the finances to buy the
house. Both families had to move out and we found a house for Glory in Albertsville
and a house for Ouma in Westdene/Melville. Ouma and the kids were happy with the
house close to the shops and the sports grounds but Glory didn´t feel safe in her new
home. Before she unpacked all the boxes, the family moved to a bigger house, in a
safer environment, with a garden for the kids to play. Shops are within walking
distance and both families live close to each other for support. With the new house,
Ouma´s family embraced a new sibling, 6 year old boy. He is such a pleasure,
always smiling and he found his position in his new class very soon. The little girl
attend a nursery school in Melville and she really enjoy to be with other kids in her
age. M. is now in grade one and S. is attending a new school too.
Glory is successfully continuing her part time study in “education” and her kids have
become more independent - doing things on their own. The boys are doing well and it
is always a pleasure to visit them, especially on their birthdays. At every Childs’
birthday they are presented with a cake and a present which they are so thrilled to
receive. The children enjoy playing together or listening to stories.
With the help of our South African and our German volunteer from “Weltwaerts” the
children are assisted with their homework, enabling them to do better in school.
We thank our mothers for their tireless efforts and their love, the StPCC
management, our volunteers, the sponsors and the supporting members of our
community. We look forward and wish to see more members of our community
/congregation to be involved in this project. “Love one another as Christ has loved
you.”
Thank you lord for seeing your love in every child´s smile.

Neema Lalela House
Report
2013 to 2014
Through the grace of GOD we have again been able to care for our two families
with four children each. Most of the costs for the families could be covered by
Neema Lalela and its donors. I managed to raise about R50 000 with the running of
the Comrades Marathon in May. Others donors are friends in Germany, our old
Interns and Companies.
This year six of the children Lindiwe, Eddy, Andile, Willi, Angel and Snondle are at
our Riverbank Primary School. Charmaine and Georgie are enrolled at Prins Hof
School for the Blind in Pretoria. Georgie has been classified as blind and is being
taught in Braille. We managed to buy him a Braille writer - cost R10 000. They stay
in the hostel from Mondays to Fridays. Our drivers take them on Mondays and fetch
them on Fridays. They also do the hospital trips and any other transport which the
families may need. Many of our congregation members are still involved in the
support of the mothers and the children. All the children regularly partake in the
children’s ministry of the West Rand Lutheran Community Church and they are
growing spiritually, mentally and physically. We are very grateful that all our children
are healthy.
The families always attend our Sunday Worship Services.
Some of the children struggle in the main stream schools. We are trying to get Eddy
into a school for specialised education in Krugersdorp.
We still do regular maintenance on our house and property and were donated solar
panels for two of the geysers by WE GEYSERS. Our Interns who stay on the
property with the families play an important role in the support of the mothers and
children.
We thank the office of St Peters Child Care for its continued support with the
families.

Report Freundeskreis
St Peter’s Child Care e.V.
2012 to2013
Dear St. Peter´s Family,
2014, has been a prosperous year. I am happy to be part of the Freundeskreis, it is a
blessed fellowship amongst us and we are bearing fruit for St Peter’s Child Care.
In Wächtersbach, Münster and Ziegenhain we sold "I love hope"-Tshirts and bags at
€7, 50 per T-shirt and €2,50 per bag which was donated to SPCC.
A TEN SING - (Youth Camp) requested Freundeskreis to sell T-shirts and bags to the
teenager attending the camp. A profit of €300.00 was made. Julius presented the work
that Freundeskreis does and gave the group some information about SPCC. One
teenager, who attended the same TEN SING-camp last year and heard about SPCC,
organised a school campaign in Eschwege: As a result, several schools in Eschwege
donated 2900€. The donation was handed over to Nicole and Moritz in person.
The Lutheran congregation in Nettelburg (Hamburg) chose SPCC as a project that they
will support throughout 2014. We received a reasonable amount of money from them
already. Kirsten presented the work of SPCC to their congregation. At our last
exposition of the "Kirchentag", the congregation got to know more about SPCC.
In May, we held our AGM in Ziegenhain. We had our first Skype interview with
Stephanie Press and we were happy to get to know her. Apart from this, we discussed
intensely how our vision fit in with SPCC vision. We all agreed, that we do not want to
present SPCC in Germany as if, donating money will solve all the problems for the
children in South Africa.
We want to be seen as one part of a bigger movement. That is, we aware of the plight
in South Africa and that all other parts of SPCC are as important as our work. We know
that our money is useless if one is not dedicated to the project. For
us it is important, to communicate our cooperation with you to our public in Germany.
By doing so we want to underline that we whole heartedly support the fight against
HIV/AIDS.
We have a new webpage:”ilovehope.de”. Moritz is busy working on it. We will have
our annual "autumn-meeting" from 7.-9th November. We will welcome the volunteers,
who just arrived from South Africa. We are looking forward to listen to their reports
about their work with the children. Besides that, we will plan a benefiz celebration for
2015 - next year the Freundeskreis will exist for 10 years! Can you believe it?
God’s Blessings for your AGM and much love from Germany,
Anke Mölleken
