• Maintain Test Security

• Materials ordered by STB

• Receive, store and inventory within

Smarter Balanced Assessment

Assess students in grades 3-8 and 11 in ELA and mathematics. Each content area test will consist of:

 A Non-Performance Task (Non-PT)

 A Performance Task (PT) component

(classroom activity)

 Best Practice

Classroom Activity must take place within 3 days of the

PT. However it may not take place on the same day as PT.

Smarter Balanced Assessment

All students take the Smarter Balanced assessments, with the following exceptions:

Students with disabilities who take the alternate assessments (ELA and mathematics)

English learners who have been enrolled in a school in the United States less than

12 months (ELA only)

English Learners must take the mathematics test regardless of the amount of time in a

US school

Testing window shall not begin until at least 66% of a school’s annual instructional days have been completed, and may continue up to the last day of instruction…

Testing window shall not begin until at least 80% of a school’s annual instructional days have been completed, and may continue up to the last day of instruction…

April 15 – June 4

The testing window shall be administered during a window of 25 days that includes 12 days before and after completion of 85% of the instructional days.

General Test Security Guidelines

 All secure test materials must be handled and stored securely.

o For paper-pencil tests, lock in secure storage with limited access, count test booklets before and after a testing session, train staff on the procedures.

o For computer-based tests, lock any printed rosters in secure storage with limited access, train staff on procedures.

 The use of unauthorized electronic devices

(i.e., cell phones) in the testing session is prohibited.

 No unauthorized visitors.

General Test Security Guidelines

 Cover or remove materials on the classroom walls that may provide information to students during testing.

 Actively monitor students during testing.

 Seat students so that they cannot easily view each other's work.

 Students not testing may not be in the room.

 Report irregularities and improprieties. o Test coordinators must report cases to the Student

Testing Branch.

Interim Assessments

Interim Comprehensive Assessments (ICAs) mirror the summative assessment:

 Use the same blueprints as the summative.

 Assess the same range of standards.

 Have the same item types and formats.

 Include performance tasks.

 Require the same amount of administration time.

 Provide information regarding student readiness for the endof-year summative assessment

 CDE anticipates release on January 15 th

Interim Assessment Blocks

Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) assess fewer sets of skills and:

 Use the same targets, by grade level, as the summative blueprints.

 Consist of short, focused sets of items.

 Provide information about a student’s strengths and needs in relation to the standards.

 Offer varied blocks by grade level and subject area.

 Anticipated release of January 27 th .

 Optional for this year.
