Lesson Topic: Digital Marketing
Purpose:
The purpose of this lesson is to teach students the definition of digital marketing and how
it can be used to the business world today. They will be able to identify the different types of
digital marketing.
Student Objectives:
1. Using the Prezi, students will be able to identify the definition of digital marketing.
2. Using the Prezi, students will be able to identify all the characteristics of digital
marketing.
3. Using the Prezi, students will be able to identify the different tools that a person can use
for digital marketing..

Computers
Prezi
Microsoft Word
Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Instagram)
NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards:
9.2 Career Awareness, Exploration, and Preparation
Motivation:
How often do you go on social media? Why do we enjoy social media so much? Which
form of social media is your favorite to use and why? Did you ever think about how companies
can use social media? That is what we are going to talk about today in class.
Procedures:
1. (Motivation) How often do you go on social media? Why do we enjoy social media so
much? Which form of social media is your favorite to use and why? Did you ever think
about how companies can use social media? That is what we are going to talk about today
in class.
2. We will begin with a quick review of what marketing is and what is the difference
between marketing and digital marketing.
3. After the quick review we will begin by defining digital marketing.
4. The students will then learn what the five characteristics of digital marketing.
5. I will then discuss the different types of digital marketing and give examples of how
some companies use those tools. (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blogs, LinkedIn)
6. Last, we will discuss the privacy aspect of social media. Students will learn how to make
sure their information is safe and be given examples of social media disasters.
Assessment:
1. The students will have to take notes to define digital marketing and they will be collected.
2. The students will have to take notes to identify the five characteristics of digital
marketing and they will be collected.
3. The students will pick an athlete, sports team, celebrity, musician or company. They will
type a one page paper discussing the types of social media they use to market a product.
They will provide examples (Tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram Pics, etc.) in their paper.
They also need to discuss some ways they can improve using social media. For extra
credit they can research and discuss a social media disaster that has occurred.
