The Lost City of Atlantis
Is the Lost City real or fake? Is it somewhere down in the ocean? Plato, a Greek writer,
once wrote about a huge island. It was called Atlantis. He said that it was ruled by Poseidon.
Poseidon had five sets of twin boys, so the island was divided into five sections. Plato also
wrote about how the island was destroyed, and he said that the people of the island became
greedy, and selfish. Zeus got very mad at Poseidon and his people. Zeus made a huge volcano
erupt and caused waves to cover the island with water. The island was never seen again, but
many people believe they have found remains. Atlantis sounds amazing, but has never truly
been found.
There are many things that make Atlantis sound real. A scuba diver found a ton of jugs
at the bottom of the ocean that could have been from Atlantis. Scientists say that if Atlantis
existed today it would be bigger than Libya and Asia combined! Another fact is there are lines
on the ocean floor. One in particular line is called Bimini Road. Some people say these lines are
from Atlantis. Atlantis was destroyed around 9600 B.C., the same time of violent nature
destructions.
There are many explanations to what really happened to Atlantis, but no one knows
which one to believe. One theory is that it was covered with water when a meteor hit the Earth.
A very good theory is that the civilization disappeared following volcanic eruptions and
earthquakes. Plato might have based his writings on that event. The next theory starts at a
place called Thera, a big island that could have been home to Atlantis. A long time ago the land

separated a huge chunk sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Some believe this chunk may have
been Atlantis. Robert Sarmast, an American scientist, performed sonar tests of the
Mediterranean seafloor. The sonar test found underwater human like objects. There are so
many theories but not one is proved to be true
There are many explanations to what happened to Atlantis, but I have my own idea. I
believe that Plato was right, but that it was nature and not Zeus that destroyed the island. I
believe a huge volcano had spewed a long time ago, and it caused huge waves in the ocean that
covered Atlantis with water. This theory makes the most sense because Plato was the first one
to write about it. He must have seen this happen and just put Zeus in the story. After all, Plato
probably wanted to get on Zeus’s good side. There are many theories but this one makes the
most sense.
Atlantis is an amazing island but never has been found. The island of Atlantis was
supposed to be near the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea. The island was said to have
sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The island was said to be home to the wealthy, caring, and
never rude people. A man named Plato was the first to write about the amazing city of Atlantis.
Hopefully one day we will find the island of Atlantis. If you would like more information on
Atlantis read the book The Mystery of Atlantis by Brian Innes.
