Torvald Helmer notes

Torvald holds the belief that a man’s role in a
marriage is to protect and ‘guide’ his wife.

He likes to think of himself as ‘the man of the
house’, without whom Nora would be lost.

This is yet another ‘mask’ however. Torvald is
perhaps the most childlike character is the play.

