Rules of stress RULE # 1
1.If a word ends in a vowel, n or
s, then the stress falls on the
next to the last syllable.

2. If the word ends in a consonant
other than n or s, then the stress
falls on the last syllable.

3. Any exception to rule #1 or rule

show where the verbal stress
belongs.

• Always go on a vowel
• Are a strong mark beginning right
over a vowel and going up at a 45
degree angle to the right.

If a words ends in an "n", "s", or a "vowel",
the verbal stress falls on the second to
last syllable.


When a word ends with any consonant other than "n" or
"s", the verbal stress falls on the last syllable




THE NO-BRAINER RULE
If the word has an accent, stress the part of the word
where the accent is found.
