TALES FROM MY BANK OF BAD HABITS
Another sad year end with the untimely passing of long time Metro Rich Bautista. Our deepest
sympathy goes out to Mickie and the Bautista Family. I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know
Richie, but after the many kind things I’ve heard about him this past week, I certainly wish I did
know him. Richie is the inspiration for the story I want to tell you.
My doctor had pestered me for several years to get a stress test. He said you’re getting fatter and
older by the day, and you have to start taking care of yourself. Well, I managed
to avoid that stress test many times. But, the shock of the loss of our friend Ken Do last year
changed that. I got that stress test, and then that test lead to others whose results showed that I had
a minor artery blockage. It didn’t appear serious, may not have required any further treatment, but
my doctor insisted that I get an angiogram, a definitive test to show any artery problems. During the
angiogram they found that my circumventing artery was 95% blocked, and they inserted a stent.
They said I would not have seen 2009 had I not have taken these tests that uncovered my hidden
condition. Well today I’m 80 pound lighter, full of energy and feeling great. I write with the hope
that it my just lead to someone else going to the doctor for a long delayed checkup, and maybe
saving their life too. That you Ken Do for saving mine, and thank you Richie for giving me the
inspiration to tell my story.

Annual Breast
Cancer Benefit Recap
Please find a copy of the letter we received thanking the Metro Parrot Head Club for hosting our
annual Breast Cancer Benefit. This years' event was held on Oct. 24th at the Huntington Hilton
who provided the use of the ballroom including food at no cost to our club. Sixty seven Parrot
Heads and friends joined in this worthy cause. Funds raised that night through the sales of raffles
and checks received via the mail (thank you President Dave for your very generous donation)
totaled a contribution of $4,000.00. All funds were given in support of the Susan G. Komen For the
Cure. Kudos PARROT HEADS!
I would also like to thank all club members and friends ( too many to mention here) for their
continued support in donating a count of sixty prizes* including theme gift baskets, Islander
tickets, hotel packages, restaurant certificates, JB photos, CD's and even a microwave. Our gift
items were outstanding this year and I really appreciate all your hard work and continued efforts
in helping this event be so successful. A BIG thank you to those members ( Tracey Markland,
Lauri Mina, Karen, Matt and Brittany Smith, Caitlin Condron, Kathy Lucano**, Ralph
Wotruba, Al and Marianne Straaik, my three children) who attended early to help in setting up
the tables and decorations. Thank you to our very "own entertainer", Eddie Travers for providing
our club his sound system for the evening and to my husband for the making of the set list on his
IPOD. Already looking forward to next years' event. Wouldn't it be great if by next year, we
could live in a world without breast cancer! Let’s HOPE!
With Thanks,
Lorraine Bosshard
* It was reported to me the SCRATCH-OFF prize board was a winner!

Lorraine’s Tale from Margaritaville
By -Lorraine Rosen
Friends of mine were down in Orlando at Margaritaville in September of last year. My friend
Sal asked JD (Stratland) to autograph a postcard from the table. He wrote "Hi Lorraine, you should
be down here, JD." So Sal gave me the card when he came back up to New York.
When I went down in November we made sure we went to Margaritaville on a day when JD
would be broadcasting. I asked JD to sign a card to Sal stating "Hi Sal, she finally made it down here"
So he signed the card but he also asked me to do a little commercial in the booth with him. At the
time they were going to run a contest regarding finding someone to be on the show and introduce a
Buffett song. He asked me to have a little conversation with him and then introduce a song off the
Anguilla CD. So I did. Then he gave me the disc of the whole time I was in the booth.
After the session, I asked him about any local places where I could have a nice tattoo done. He
told me about a place in Universal where I went. I had complications after it to the tune of 6 weeks
of antibiotics and 2 hospitalizations, but it had nothing to do with the business. I got the infection
from going on the safari ride at Sea World the next day. Anyway, JD and I E-mailed each other a few
times after that regarding what had happened to me. When I met him again at MOTM 2008, he
remembered the whole story and therefore remembered me.

Before you run off to the Caribbean
Santa’s stressed out as the holiday season draws near…
Aren’t we all?
He needs a vacation from bad decorations and snow…
He thinks about boat drinks and fun in the sun
Where did Santa go?
Santa’s run off to the Caribbean!
Hopefully, before Santa climbed aboard his cruise ship out of Fort Lauderdale he grabbed a bite to eat
at the Grumpy Gator located in the Harbor Beach Plaza, just outside of the cruise terminals.
If you, like Santa, will be escaping the winter doldrums and will be in the Fort Lauderdale area, be sure
to stop by Grumpy Gator’s restaurant and grab some gator tail. We stumbled upon it & loved it!
Grumpy Gator’s Florida Sea Grill & Bar is a Buffett-styled restaurant specializing in the ball games of
the day, gator tails, Havana banana chicken w/ black beans, and of course great burgers & wings. Be
sure to wash all that down with an Alligator Alley punch, a Gatorita, a mojito or one of each. Buffett/Trop
Rock music is heard throughout your meal as wait staff clad in BUFFETT FOR PRESIDENT and IT’S
5’OCLOCK SOMEWHERE shirts scurry about serving boat drinks and good food.
A week in the tropics and we’ll be alright

No wasting away in Margaritaville
Associated Press
December 29, 2008
Buffett, who turned 62 on Christmas Day, long ago became an
icon of certain baby boomers — perhaps the least-hip
demographic in the country — by offering the dream of throwing
off their responsibilities for his tropical party vibe.
But in the past decade, this chronicler of Margaritaville has really
cashed in on his image.
How big is Buffett?
With an estimated annual income of more than $40 million, you might mistake his portfolio for that of
Warren Buffett (not a relative). And he's done it by sailing beyond most musicians' ticket, T-shirt and poster
revenue stream. The title of his most popular song is showing up on restaurants, clothing, booze and casinos.
Among the products he's involved with are Landshark Lager, the Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise
restaurant chains, clothing and footwear, household items and drink blenders. The Margaritaville cafe on the
Las Vegas strip is said to be the top grossing restaurant in the nation.
Buffett writes best-selling novels. There's Radio Margaritaville on Sirius. Even his recording career is
booming as the music industry tanks: His recent album, "License to Chill," was the first No. 1 album of his
career.
In October, Buffett was chosen by Vanity Fair as No. 97 on a list of the 100 most influential people. In the
world. He's nestled between Universal Music Group CEO Doug Morris and anti-poverty crusader Jeffrey Sachs.
But the exact scope of the Parrot Head empire is secret. Buffett's privately held Margaritaville Holdings LLC
does not publicly disclose its finances, and his publicists declined numerous requests for interviews with the
singer or anyone connected with Miami-based Margaritaville Holdings.
"He wants to be known as an artist and musician, but he's an extremely savvy businessman," said Brian Hiatt,
an associate editor for Rolling Stone who covers the concert industry.
Buffett is somewhat unique among aging crooners in that his fan base is broad, and is not tied solely to a
string of past hit songs. For most of his career, Buffett had only one Billboard Top 10 hit, "Margaritaville," in
1977.
What he offers his fans is an accessible fantasy.
"Anyone of any age could imagine retiring to a tropical paradise and drinking margaritas," Haitt said.
"There is something extra-musical about the whole thing."
You don't have to go to a concert to buy his stuff. Margaritaville boat shoes and flip flops are found in
shopping malls. Margaritaville Foods sells salsa, hummus, tortillas and dips in Wal-Mart and other stores.
Landshark is sold in grocery stores, and Margaritaville tequila is in liquor stores.
And concert tickets sell out in short order, despite prices that run well over $100. The Buffett brand is on a
growth spurt, usually as a result of marketing deals.
The Cheeseburger in Paradise chain was founded in 2002 and owned by OSI Restaurant Partners, owners
of Outback Steakhouse, among others, under a license from Buffett. Landshark Lager, made by AnheuserBusch, and Margaritaville Tequila, made by Seagram, are sponsors of his concerts.
Last May, the Trump Marina Hotel Casino in Atlantic City was purchased by Coastal Marina, LLC, which will
convert it into a destination resort under the "Margaritaville" label.
"Jimmy Buffett and his team at Margaritaville have created an extraordinary brand that is instantly
recognizable to an enormously large and dedicated fan base," said Richard Fields, CEO of Coastal
Development. "The brand implies quality, value and good times."
Meanwhile, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., has teamed up with Buffett to develop the $700 million
Margaritaville Casino & Resort in Biloxi, Miss., near where Buffett was raised. That project has been delayed
by the downturn in the nation's economy. But Harrah's and Buffett already have a profitable relationship.
According to Buffett's Web site, the first Margaritaville opened in Key West, Fla., in 1987. The chain has
since grown to 16 outlets, including a new one at the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut .
Margaritaville at the Flamingo Las Vegas takes in more than $43 million a year, said casino president Don
Marrandino.
"It's been pretty consistent for five years," Marrandino said. "It speaks to the Buffett lifestyle."

Final Thought:
It is estimated that Jimmy
Buffett makes in the excess
of $40 million annually.
To help wrap your head around
that number, here are a few
items that cost $40 million:
1) President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration
2) an upgrade to Philadelphia’s police radios
3) flight aboard the Russian space shuttle to the
International Space Station
4) total coaching, financing, training & medical costs
for an Australian athlete to earn an Olympic Gold
Medal
5) Bono’s new musical production of Spider-Man
