What did The English do when
they got here
• 3 types of colonies
(Developed between
the 1500 - 1800.
– Northern (New
England)
– Middle
– Southern
– Frontier land
• Northern Colonies
were fisherman
• Middle and Southern
were Farmers (about

• Upper Class or
Aristocrats
• New England Colony Merchants and
Clergyman
• Middle and Southern
Colonies - those who
owned large amounts of
land.

• Clergy, Farmers,
Shop-keepers, Ships
Captains, Carpenters,
and Blacksmiths.

• Redemptioners - a person from your
• Lower Classes family or wealthy person would pay for

service.
• Indentured servants - Usually a single
man between 18-30 whose passage was
paid by a wealthy individual in
exchange for 7-10 years service.
• Slaves - the first blacks were actually
indentured servants brought to
Jamestown in 1619, but people began to
keep them as slaves.
French and Indian War

French and English to
war against one
another.

French because there
