Statement from Tomball ISD concerning
fact proficiencies.
"In 2nd and 3rd grade, students will be assessed on their math
fact fluency on a regular basis as required by the TEKS for their
grade level. Weekly assessments will be taken and the average
of those weekly assessments will account for 1/2 of a major
grade for students for the nine weeks. This ½ of a major grade
will be in addition to the 3 major grades taken in each nine
weeks."
Right now, we know they will be timed. In the past, it has been 5 seconds per
problem. The district has not made a decision as to how much time, so until we
are told otherwise, we will be practicing at 5 seconds per problem.

Each week one student will bring home a tote bag and become a traveling
scientist. Inside the tote you will find a notebook and a science book with
experiments that can be conducted at home. You and your student can
choose one or more experiments to conduct during the week. Your student will
then write about what he or she observed during the experiment and any other
details they feel they would like to share about the experience. Please feel
free to decorate the page with color, pictures, stickers etc... we want
this journal to be fun to look at and
read time and time again. Your
student will share his or her page
with their class on Thursday/Friday.
All transportation changes need to be made before 3:00. It is
best to make these changes in writing by sending a note with
your student in the morning. Changes that are emailed or left
on voice mail will not be accepted as we may not receive
them on time.
If your child is absent for any
reason, please send a note within 2 days of
the student's return to school.
All students are allowed to eat a healthy snack at 2:00. They are
also allowed to bring a bottle of water to leave
at their seat. Water bottles must
be able to close securely. Snacks
will be eaten while the students
are working. Please send items that
are easy to eat and are not too messy!
PLEASE NO PEANUT PRODUCTS!
We do have students with peanut allergies.
Ideas:
Cheese sticks, fruit, crackers,
goldfish, fruit snacks....
