This twelve week course will introduce students to basic vocabulary and simple grammar
structures in the Spanish language. Students will learn to discuss age, time, dates, family
members and friends, school subjects, and the home. In addition, students will study the
geography of the Spanish-speaking world and cultural topics like the Day of the Dead and the
famous Running of the Bulls.
Resources and Materials:
The following items must be with you every day. Failure to bring these items may result in the
loss of participation points.
 Planner
 A folder with your class handouts
 Notebook
 Green ¿Cómo te va? textbook
 A pencil
Assessment:
You will be evaluated on speaking, listening, writing, reading comprehension and class
participation. Your grade will be determined in the following way.
Participation: 10%
Homework: 30%
Quizzes/ Tests: 40%
Projects: 20%
The entire class will be given class time to work on assignments.
Late homework will be 10% off per day.
If you are absent look at the weekly assignment folders, ask three before you ask me. Turn in for
full credit.
Classroom procedures
1. Entering class
 Enter class with your planner, folder, notebook and writing utensil. Enter quietly and
begin your bell work independently unless otherwise stated.
2. Beginning of class
 Please take out your planner and copy down the homework if there is any.
 Correct the bell work
 Get out of your Spanish materials for the day
3. Coming to attention
 Sometimes I will ask you to work in groups to discuss something out loud.
 When discussion time is up and I need to give you new directions, I will count down
backwards as a signal for everyone to stop talking and give me your full attention.
4. Paper passers/ collectors
 Four students will help the class as paper passers/collectors.
 Whenever papers or supplies need to be handed out, the four passers will quickly and
silently pass them out to their stations
 Turn in assignments by quickly and silently passing papers to the collector for your
station.
 The collector for your station will take the papers and put them in the box in under 15
seconds.
5. Planner checkers
 Two students will help revise the planners to make sure all students have written
down the homework.
6. Bathroom passes
 Don’t ask the first 10 minutes of class or the last 10 minutes of class.
 Each student will be allowed two bathroom passes every six weeks. If you have an
emergency, you may buy a pass by writing a one page report about someone famous
who speaks Spanish. The report must be hand written.
7. No gum
 Because you are here to learn to speak Spanish, you must have your mouth free of
gum so that it can work on these new sounds and words.
8. Sharpening pencils, need paper, need to go to the bathroom
 Raise your hand, use appropriate signal.
9. Tardiness
 If you arrive late, please enter quietly, give me your pass (if you have one) and go to
your seat. If you are not in your seat when the bell rings with all your materials you
are considered tardy.
10. Class meeting
 Get in a circle
 Positive compliments
11. Class dismissal
 I will have two students keep track of class time. When it’s about 2 minutes until
class dismissal the students will alert me by holding up 2 fingers.
 Please clean up after yourself.
 Stay on your seat until I dismiss you in Spanish. ( Hasta luego, hasta mañana, adiós,
nos vemos…
All items not mentioned will be in accordance with the student handbook.

Spanish B Course (7th or 8th grade)
This 12 week course is a continuation of the Spanish A course. Students will continue to expand
their vocabulary with an emphasis on the present tense verb conjugations and more complex
grammar structures. Students will learn to discuss hobbies, sports, and food. Students will also
complete a cultural research project at the end of the course.
