Task
Conduct some demographic research on a country from the list below (you will be assigned a number). Prepare your results on an informative, clear,
and concise summary (powerpoint slide).
Focus
Take a close look at the 2000, 2013, 2025, and 2050 population pyramids for your country... think about what they mean for the age structure of the
population. Realize that the pyramids are the result of geographic, economic, political, and cultural factors.
Your demographic study should have:
1) small labelled map of the country to indicate where in the world! (1 mark)
2) very brief description of the country (population, language, etc.) (3 marks)
3) Is your country developed or developing, what are some reason behind the level of development? (4 marks)
4) a labelled population pyramid for 2000 (use the graph from the census site)-What type of population pyramid is this? (i.e. early expanding,
expanding stable, contracting) Make some statements about the population based on your population pyramid. (3 marks)
5) a labelled population pyramid for 2013(use the graph from the census site)-What type of population pyramid is this? (i.e. early expanding,
expanding stable, contracting) Make some statements about the population based on your population pyramid. (3 marks)
6) a labelled population pyramid for 2025(use the graph from the census site)-What type of population pyramid is this? (i.e. early expanding,
expanding stable, contracting) Make some statements about the population based on your population pyramid. (3 marks)
7) a labelled population pyramid for 2050 (use the graph from the census site)- What type of population pyramid is this? (i.e. early expanding,
expanding stable, contracting) Make some statements about the population based on your population pyramid. (3 marks)
8) indicate the stage of demographic transition in 2013. Make some statements about birth rate, death rate, population growth. IN addition, give
us some of the advantages/disadvantages associated with being in this stage. (8 mark)
9) describe of how the population will change between 2000 and 2050 (population growth rate, natural increase, doubling time etc) (3 marks)
10) very brief, relevant facts about the country which have an impact on population (e.g. industrialization level, health issues, level of education,
state of the economy, life expectancy, income, dependency ratio, GDP others?) (8 marks)
11) for Dependency ration tells us what it is for your country. Talk about the three major groups (refer to notes)? What kind of issues does the
government have to address in regards to the Dependency ration of your country? (4 marks)
12) talk about the population distribution and population density in your country. (2 marks)
13) talk about the carrying capacity for your country (1 mark)
14) any other observations or insights which relate to population change and issues in the country your sources (the census site and at least one
other) (2 marks)
Format
Place all of your demographic study elements on to one powerpoint, or poster!
Keep the slide clean and simple... no transitions or sound effects necessary. E-MAIL or bring the powerpoint in on a flash drive (better, safer)
Assessment
We’re looking for 1) understanding of population issues and demographic concepts, 2) balanced, concise evidence of this from one country, 3) ability to
construct a clear/clean demonstration of learning
ALSO look at the marks next to each question and try to have as many relevant points!
