COURSE CHOICE GUIDANCE
Before making your option choices please consider the questions below.
1. Which course type will best suit me?
Use the guide below to help you to decide whether to choose A Levels, BTECs or a mix of both types of
course. You need to be realistic about which courses will give you the best chance of success.

2. Which subjects do you enjoy and which ones are you best at?
Most university courses do not require you to have studied specific subjects. Therefore, if you are unsure
about your future career plans, you should base your choice of courses on the subjects you enjoy most.
However, if you are likely to apply to the most prestigious universities in the UK, studying a couple of the
following subjects will keep more options open for you in the future:
Maths, English Literature, History, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, French, German
(Please visit www.russellgroup.ac.uk for more information)
3. What are your future career plans?
If you know your future career plans then you should research and choose subjects that will help you in your
chosen career. If you know what you plan to study at university the use the website www.ucas.com to
research which subjects, if any, are required at Level 3. Two of the most common examples are:
Engineering
Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary Science
- Maths and Physics
- Chemistry and Biology
REMEMBER THAT YOU WILL HAVE AN INTERVIEW DURING WHICH COURSE CHOICES WILL BE DISCUSSED
AND THAT CHANGES CAN ALWAYS BE MADE WHERE NECESSARY.
