 Require 30 minutes of Compass per week (in addition to
any lab time we may get)
 Greek and Latin Word Parts
 Grammar/ Parts of Speech weekly focus
 Required texts: Number The Stars, excerpt of Diary of
Anne Frank, Out of the Dust
 Novels are historical fiction and correlate with Social
Studies units of study
Social Studies
 Survey course of world including study of geography,
cultures, economics, and history in Africa, Europe, Asia,
and South America
 Project Based Learning (with a lot of work done in
school)
Math


Instruction is taken from the PA Academic Standards as well as the Common Core
Standards for grade 6 Mathematics.

Require 30 minutes of Compass per week

Mathematics will be divided into 4 parts daily.

1. Daily Warm-Up, Fact Practice, and Pre-Algebra Skills

2. Spiral Review

3. Curricular Lesson
*number sense
*operations
*decimals/fractions/percents
*geometry
*statistics & probability


4. Project/Problem Solving
Homework will be given nightly to practice the skills taught from that day’s lesson. I
will assess the student’s homework the next day for understanding and that it is
complete. It is pertinent for the student to see me during activity period that day or
before class the next day if they have additional questions in regards to the lesson.

Public Understanding Program)
 Scientific Method: Embedded within the instruction are the
following science processes: Observation, Hypothesizing,
Research, Experimentation, Classification, Data Analysis,
and the use of tools

 Rocks and Minerals
 Erosion and Deposition
 Plate Tectonics
 Weather and Atmosphere
