Monday
Last Monday all the year sixes went to
Camp Kaitawa for a week to
experience the wonderful outdoors and
nature. On Monday we all jumped into
the cars and we were off. Me
(Brandan), Matthew and Adam jumped
into the same car. We drove for about
an hour and we stopped at Saint
Joseph’s to have lunch with them.
After that we jumped back into the
cars and half way there Matthew felt a
little sick because he ate a lot of lollies
and all the swerves on the road. So
then…HE VOMITED eww! It was
funny but mostly disgusting. Finally we
got to Camp Kaitawa. Once we were
there we got our stuff and shot gunned
the beds we wanted. After that we met
up with Mr Crawford and we had to go
for a walk in all the rain . The trip to
camp was exciting!
Tuesday
On Tuesday we got up, had breakfast and
then we got into our walking gear and we
drove to Ngamoko and got into our groups
and we were off. At the beginning it was
already going up and Miss Hewett said that it
was getting steep already, lol. I was walking
with Hamish and Matthew. I said to them this
is easer than I thought. 30 minutes into the
walk we stopped to see a really REALLY old
tree it was 800-1000 YEARS OLD WOW!! We
had morning tea at the tree. We started
walking again and half way through Miss
Hewett fell in front of me and I laughed. Me
and Hamish took this path (well we thought it
was a path) and then we realised it was a
wrong path! So we took a short cut and
climbed up the hill and we carried on walking.
It was a long walk but really fun . When we
got to the top we were 1050 feet above sea
level. I thought we would drive back to camp
but we didn’t so I was like oh, but it didn’t kill
us, so all good.
Wednesday
On Wednesday got out of bed ,got
changed and went to the dinning hall
to have our breakfast. After we had our
breakfast we got our day pack and
lunch and we were off. Nic drove us
(Brandan, Matthew and Adam) to the
caves. Once we were the caves we all
got into our groups and started walking
along the track. Mrs Baudinet (The
chief) told us to stop to tell us that we
must be careful because there where
holes on the side of the track so we
must be really careful. We went
through about 5 caves and they were
FUN! We had to switch on our
headlamps because some of the caves
are dark. After the cave walk we
jumped back into the cars and headed
back to camp.
Thursday
On Thursday we got up and got dressed and had our
breakfast. After that we went to our bunkrooms and
got our lunchbox so we can get our packed lunch for
the day. Mrs Johnson drove me Adam and Matthew
down to the waterfalls. They were the Papakorito
waterfalls and it was a beautiful view. Me and
Matthew were walking together and talking about
what a great time we are having. After the waterfall
went back to camp in the cars and I fell asleep in the
car, lol. When we got back to camp we did this
obstacle course in our teams. I think our team came
3rd or 4th not sure :P When we finished the course
the teachers told us to go get our ingredients for our
cook out. For the cook out we got into our groups
and we started cooking. We made mince and
nachos. When we finished I couldn't wait to eat our
food and then……..mmmmm this is awesome! Me
and Aaron did most of the stirring but I regretted it
because my eyes were BURNING! After the cookout
we stayed in our groups to make this flying machine
out of our bodies. It was pretty hard but fun. When
we landed on the ground we crash landed and
Matthew said ‘’oh its 9/11 all over again it was so
funny’’.
Friday
On Friday I got up out o bed and I
said so its Friday time to go home.
The teachers told us have
breakfast first and then go back to
our dorms and pack up all our
clothing. After we finished that we
went outside to go play some
games while the teachers cleaned
the camp. We got called after
about 30 minutes to come back,
get our stuff, jump in the car and
go home. We stopped for lunch at
Wairoa and for an ice block. After
all of that we were home. I was
so glad to see my mum and my
dog again. Overall I thought that it
was an awesome experience for
me!
