OAT152 Excel
Chapters 1-7 and 9 Assignments
Myitlab has so many resources for you to use to learn Excel. We all learn differently so take advantage of
what works for YOU. Not all of them will be assigned. The following assignments will be listed in myitlab:
1. PowerPoint (Optional in myitlab)
PowerPoint presentation may be used to highlight or explain the information that the textbook and
myitlab will cover.
2. Student Videos (Optional in myitlab)
A visual and audio walk-through of every A and B project in the book. This was also packaged with your
textbook on a CD.
3. Objective Quiz Study Guide (Optional in myitlab)
This is a bank of matching and multiple choice questions to help in learning more about excel. It is
recommended you use your textbook and have an Excel file with data opened to seek the answers.
When you take the Objective Quiz that is required, fewer questions will be selected to complete.



Attempts to Complete: Unlimited
Timer Set: No
This is practice and preparation for the Objective Quiz.
4. Grader Project Homework (Optional in myitlab)
This is an optional assignment but it is highly recommended you complete this, at the very least for
Chapter 1, to become familiar with this process before attempting the Grader Project Assessment.
Open the solution located at myitlab (view all content) before starting the project.
Grader Projects are completed live in Excel 2010 rather than in the simulated environment. A data file
will be downloaded and then the completed Excel file will be uploaded to myitlab for immediate grading.
Excel 2010 is required to complete this assignment.



Attempts to Complete: Unlimited
Practice working proficiently since the Grader Project Assessment will permit only 1 hour for
completion.
This is practice and preparation for exam.
5. Textbook (Required)—Each chapter has two projects—A and B
Complete Projects A and B. At the beginning of each chapter, read the Outcomes, Objectives and
the information under In This Chapter. On the second page of each chapter read Project Activities and
look at the Project Results. For Chapter 1, that information is located on pages 49-50. It is important for
you to know the purpose of the spreadsheet you are creating and see the end result before starting to
build the file. You will be creating spreadsheets that are used in the real business world.
Data Files—These are files with data and will be used beginning in Chapter 2. Data files are located on
the CD in the back of the textbook and also at the course in BlackBoard at the Data Files/Solutions
menu item.

Key Terms, Matching, Multiple Choice (located at the end of each chapter)-- Use to review for
Objective Quiz. The answers are located at the course website in BlackBoard.
Content-Based Assessments—Additional practice to help you master Excel. Solutions to these files
are located at the course website in BlackBoard. To become more proficient with Excel, it is
recommended you complete these additional assignments. It is important for you to go beyond
“pointing and clicking”. Notice the skills covered are listed in the top left corner. For example, open
your textbook to page 94—Skills Review Project 1C GPS Sales. At the top left corner, completing this
excel file will cover the objectives from Project A. Turn to page 107—GO! Make It Project 1I Printer
Sales. At the top left corner, completing this Excel file will cover the objectives from Projects A and B.
All of the graded assignments will cover the objectives from projects A and B. Project G is Grader
Project Homework located in Myitlab.
Begin to look at how a worksheet is designed and how is it laid out? What are the column headings;
years, months or products or are they the row headings? Which formulas are used to show accurate
information? What features are used for readability and to aid with accuracy? Will you be the data
entry clerk or the manager creating the worksheets? Ask for assistance in completing any of these
workbooks
6. Skill-Based Training (Required in myitlab
After completing Projects A and B, complete the skill-based training. This training matches your
textbook content. In a simulated environment, Excel tasks will be completed. You have access, while
working in training, to see how a task is completed. Your goal will be to complete the skill-based
training without using Hint or Show Me before taking the Skill-Based Exam. The Skill-Based Exam will
not have any aids to assist you. Below is an explanation of the various buttons available in the training
assignment:
