The Situation: Othello, his ensign and their
ladies are all to go to Cyprus to prepare
Act II
Tu r k s : The Turkish fleet is destroyed by a storm and is no
longer a threat
C a s s i o :Gets to Cyprus first and greets the rest of the group
I a g o : Capitalizes on Desdemona’s kindness and plants a
seed of doubt about Cassio and Desdemona in Othello’s head
Wife For Wife: Iago professes that he loves
Desdemona; also that the thought of Othello
with his wife plagues his thoughts. This
suggests that he wants to defile Desdemona
either by sleeping with her or other means.

Act II
Othello Declares a victory and orders a party

Othello leaves Cassio in charge and tells him to

restrain himself (don’t drink too much!). Cassio does not follow
orders.
The Fight:
Iago sends Roderigo after a drunk Cassio
(he’s a fighter). They come running back into the scene with
Cassio chasing Roderigo.
Montano:
Montano (Governor of Cyprus) tries
to stop the fight and Cassio attacks him.
Resolution: Othello wants to hear the story; Iago ‘gives
in’ and retells the story with Cassio in the worst possible
light.
Act II
Othello Drops Cassio from his position
:

position. Iago tells Cassio that he should talk to
Desdemona and convince her to convince
Othello to get his job back
R o d e r i g o : Wa n t s t o g o b a c k t o Ve n i c e ; I a g o
convinces him not to.

(Emilia) to talk to Desdemona about getting
Cassio his job back and make sure Othello
sees Cassio talk to Desdemona
